Talking Hawks MVP: Round 7

Dylan Moore burns away from James Rowbottom

As Buddy graced the MCG he bid farewell to a crowd of 38,052 Hawthorn and Sydney faithful on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the “Bud factor” warmed the hearts of many. The Hawks were in the mix for two thirds of the first quarter in a low scoring tussle, and then Sydney put the foot down to kick the next seven goals by midway through the second quarter, enroute to a 76 point victory.

Heart and soul effort by a player who bleeds Hawthorn. Was instrumental in trying to stop the tide of Swans momentum and didn’t stop trying all game with his 25 disposals and eight score involvements.

2 Votes – Lloyd Meek

Was a massive challenge for Lloyd Meek coming up against Brodie Grundy and Meeky acquitted himself well. Had a goal assist and a goal himself, along with 20 hitouts which helped the midfield win the clearances.

1 Vote – James Worpel

Worps was in and under around the packs, with 15 of his possessions being contested. Had a lovely goal assist where he lowered the eyes and found a rare target inside our forward 50 for an uncontested mark and goal.

Moore’s leadership and effort really stood out.  His disposals (25) involved eight contested possessions and five tackles.

Moore’s impact in the forward arc included four i50s, eight score involvements, one goal assist, one goal and one behind.

2 Votes – Lloyd Meek

Meek was the better of the rucks across the day using his large frame to good effect in many contests resulting in seven one percenters and three clearances.

He finished with 20 hitouts adding to his nine contested possessions, four i50s, two score involvements and a goal.

Of Worpel’s 21 disposals, he amassed 15 contested possessions, adding six clearances, six tackles and six i50s topped off with three score involvements.

How do you back up 20 & four goals last week against a better opponent?

Have a goal assist and a goal with your first three disposals, along with 25 disposals, 17 pressure acts, eight score involvements, eight marks and five tackles.

MVP by double of the length of Flemington.

Brodie Grundy was dominant in the opening ten minutes.

Meek was the dominant ruckman for the other 110.

15 touches @73%, 20 hitouts, nine contested possessions, a goal and a ripping delivery inside 50 to Ginni that should’ve been a goal.

Hawks won the clearances by five and he was a big reason why.

1 Vote – Jack Scrimshaw

He’s playing so undersized and doing a magnificent job is Scrim.

Got a bake by Sam by going into the corridor late in the first but recovered beautifully.

Had 21 touches, nine marks, 86% efficiency and 482 metres gained in a really good performance.

Rose to the occasion on a day not many did. Led by example with his continuous efforts and refused to give up despite the team being 10 goals down.

Was our most potent forward by a long stretch.

2 Votes – Jack Scrimshaw

Loved Scrimshaw’s game. He showed how much he’s improved his one on one abilities this year.

15/17 kicks were effective, it was unfortunate that one ineffective kick led to a spray from Sam Mitchell.

Despite that, he was one of the only players I wanted to see with the ball in his hands, in a game where skill was utterly lacking for the Hawks.

1 Vote – Will Day

Easily our most composed midfielder throughout the game.

I thought every time he went into the midfield he offered something, whether it was a clean clearance that launched us inside 50 or multiple defensive efforts.

We have rarely seen from our other midfielders this year.

Leadership personified. In another tough day for the Hawks, VC Dylan Moore stood up again, wearing his heart on his sleeve and never giving up!

His effort can never be questioned and he was able to impact the game like few Hawks could.

2 Votes – Lloyd Meek

Is our number one ruckmen by the length of the Flemington straight!

Has been super impressive to start the year and if he continues like this, will be a smokey come the Best and Fairest.

1 Vote – Jack Scrimshaw

I get where Sam Mitchell was coming from with the spray he directed at Scrimma, but he was far from our biggest problem in defence and played well for most of the game.

In a tough day for our forwards, Moorey still found a way to impact the game and his work rate offensively and defensively were both equally impressive.

2 Votes – Lloyd Meek

Nullified a very dangerous opponent and his work rate was outstanding playing over 80% of game time and managing to kick one of our five goals.

1 Vote – Jack Scrimshaw

One third of his 21 touches were intercept possessions, taking nine marks and going at 86% constantly playing above his weight deserved a vote.
