Talking Hawks MVP: Round 6

After a week in which the blowtorch was on the Football Club, the Mighty Hawks took home the four points for the first time this year. Hawthorn fans saw a spirited and inspired performance that saw a second quarter blitz allow the team to a secure comfortable 45 point victory in front of a crowd of just over 30,000 fans at Marvel Stadium.

Tim’s Votes

3. Harry Morrison

When the whips were cracking in the first half, HMo was everywhere. He was assured with ball in hand and his leadership pivotal in our run of goals.

2. Conor Nash

The acid test was put on him to perform and he did so admirably. Ten clearances, eight tackles, 21 pressure acts and eight score involvements. Great return to form from the Meath Menace.

1. Sam Frost

Frosty has turned Larkey into his bunny in our last three encounters against North Melbourne. Loved his determination and attack on the ball, all of which has been a hallmark of the resurgence of Frosty this year.

3. Dylan Moore

The energiser bunny is back! Moorey was real damaging with ball in hand, running at 85% from his 20 touches! Eight score involvements including four snags is a super game.

2. Jai Newcombe

The Duke we all know is ruling the midfield again… felt like there was two of him out there today. Hopefully the spark he needs to get his season back to his best.

1. Harry Morrison

HMo was instrumental in the first half. I felt he had a massive impact early in the game to help swing the momentum back in our favour.

3. Jai Newcombe

Outstanding performance in the middle and easily his best performance of the year! A much needed confidence boost and a welcome return to form from the Prince of Poowong.

2. Dylan Moore

Super impressive response from our Vice Captain, who kicked four goals and spent some time in the middle for a different look. I love his leadership qualities and we are a better team when Dylan Moore plays well.

1. Conor Nash

A much needed return to form with very similar numbers to Newcombe. For me, Newcombe used the ball better and had more impact, which is why Nash just got the one vote today, but it was great to see the Irishmen back to his best, more of this please!

Harry Morrison, Conor Macdonald and Jarman Impey all unlucky not to poll this week.

3. Dylan Moore

20 disposals at 85%, eight score involvements, five marks, four inside 50s, four goals, and three clearances. Can’t ask for any more out of a small forward, especially when they then go and add value on the ball.

2. Conor Nash

Threw his enormous frame around and it was a welcome return to form. 32 disposals, 15 contested possessions, ten clearances, eight tackles, eight score involvements, and six inside 50s are some impressive numbers. His disposals, contested possessions, tackles, and clearances were all team highs.

1. Jai Newcombe

Very similar numbers to Nash with 32 disposals, 14 contested possessions, nine clearances, nine score involvements, six tackles, five inside 50s, and two marks. A stellar game and an equally welcome return to form.

That’s the list of Hawks from 2010-onwards that have had 20 and kicked four in a game. That is unbelievable!

Add in five marks, four more score involvements that weren’t off his boot, four inside 50’s, three clearances and 18 pressure acts and you have yourself some VALUE!

2. Conor Nash

To have 32 disposals (15 contested), 10 clearances, 21 pressure acts and eight score involvements for two votes sounds ludicrous but it’s where the Irishman fits for me.

In most other weeks, he’d get the three votes. Was outstanding!

1. Harry Morrison

If he’s played a better game, I’ve forgotten it. His ability to hold his width and force North to kick long was elite and he ran amok as well.

Had 26 touches, seven marks, six score involvements and kicked a nice goal as well.

3. Jai Newcombe

A return to form for Nuke, was able to get in and under once again –  registering 14 contested possessions. Nine clearances and 32 disposals at a solid 84% meant he was a key part of our offence and enabled us to find avenues to goals, with nine score involvements.

2. Dylan Moore

Loved the look of Dyl in the midfield. With 20 disposals and four goals he was a key part of our dominance against North. He was even able to register two centre clearances from his small number of attendances. This move was a great one tactically from Sam Mitchell and I hope we see Dyl in a few more centre bounces going forward.

1. Harry Morrison

Harry was a player this team sorely missed over the past few weeks. He was one of the reasons we got into this game, after North kicked the first two. He was able to find the ball so easily on his wing, and was a cool, calm presence we’ve desperately needed in this young side. Plus, he’s basically a lock for a goal a game as well. I would love to see Harry keep his spot for a while now.

Matt’s Votes

3. Jai Newcombe

Newcombe brought his braun back and the Roos felt it. His contested possessions (15), tackles (six), clearance work (seven) and hard work resulted in five inside 50s and two score involvements across his 32 possessions at 84% disposal efficiency.

2. Dylan Moore

Moore delivered in spades.  His four goals to go with twenty disposals at 85% showed class and he welcomed the challenge wherever he was played with pressure (seven CPs) and three clearances.

1. Conor Nash

Nash set the tone in many contests and repeat efforts.  Hawthorn’s equal disposal getter (32) for the game, added nine clearances, eight tackles and displayed a monster work rate through the game to add inside 50s (six) and rebound 50s (five).
