The Hawks led from start to finish, despite the Saints coming hard through the day, to clinch a meaningful five point victory on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at UTas Stadium.

The crowd of 15,112 witnessed a gritty Hawthorn take home the four points with Dylan Moore captaining for a second time while he was shown strong support from Amon, Newcombe, Meek and Scrimshaw.

Newcombe’s attack and pressure shone through across the game. His 26 pressure acts, eight clearances and seven tackles delivered two score launches amid 17 contested possessions from 31 disposals going at over 83% efficiency.

The midfield is starting to click again.

2 Votes – Karl Amon

Amon was sublime by foot resulting in a game high 711 metres gained (averages 540 MG/game, now 7th in the AFL for total MG in 2024). Karl showcased why the Hawthorn brain trust moved him back this season.

Karl’s kick out duties amassed 11 R50s, but an all important bullet kick out to Impey in the third quarter started a speedy and impressive end to end goal, finished by Bruest. In Karl we trust.

1 Vote – Jack Scrimshaw

Scrimshaw is thriving in 2024 and this game was no exception. With the skipper out, Jack’s responsibilities as tall intercept defender increased, and with the gauntlet thrown down, he responded!

An equal game high 8 intercept possessions and 9 contested possessions from 17 disposals were distributed at 100% disposal efficiency complimenting Scrimma’s strong effort all day.  He played a vital role and had great defensive support from his teammates.

Love the way this guy uses the footy, smart, reliable and consistent. Offered plenty off half back and at 93% DE is enormous!

2 Votes – Jai Newcombe

Led the on ball brigade well after a slow start to his season, feel like he is finding his feet now and well and truly back to his best. 31 disposals, 17 of them contested and 8 clearances.

1 Vote – Lloyd Meek

Honestly seems to get better every week, he’s offering a real presence around the ground and has been solid in his ruck craft to go with it.

Has had a few tough opponents in the last month or so and at worst he is halving the contest with his opposing ruck, or beating them like he did Saturday. Hard to see how Reeves gets back into the side with how Meek is going, MAGNIFICENT.

Shout out to stand in skipper Dylan Moore who is unlucky not to poll this week.

Our best midfielder on the day. Worked hard both offensively and defensively with a monster 17 contested possessions and putting on elite pressure at stoppages. He looks back to his best.

2 Votes – Karl Amon

Hawk’s supporters love seeing the ball in Karl’s hands, having 31 disposals and going at 93% disposal efficiency. He worked his magic off half back being involved in a lot of best moments of ball movement.

1 Vote – Jack Scrimshaw

Another great game from Jack. Despite playing as an undersized defender, he is able to have massive impacts on games.

Registering a game high 4 intercept marks and 8 intercept possessions, he played a key role in Saturday’s win.

The Duke was at his bullocking best, with seven tackles and 26 pressure acts. With over half of his 31 possessions contested, still managed to go at 84% disposal efficiency. Lead from the front and let his footy do the talking.

2 Votes – Karl Amon

Exquisite performance by Karl, like watching poetry in motion… 94% disposal efficiency for his 31 touches while gaining a whopping 711 metres is a feat very few could conquer and was a huge reason the Hawks were victorious.

1 Vote – Dylan Moore

Had big shoes to fill in the absence of the captain and he executed the job like a natural born leader.

While he didn’t pack the stat sheet, he led by example with his relentless pressure and had two very important goals.

711 metres gained whilst going at 94% efficiency with 24 of his 31 disposals being kicks.

His distribution by foot coming out of defence was beyond exquisite and his ability to set plays up from the back half was vital in getting the Hawks over the line.

2 Votes – Jai Newcombe

Eight clearances and seven tackles show the value Jai Newcombe provided around stoppages all day and his ability to burst through stoppages and find teammates on the outside by hand proving pivotal all day.

How good he has been since Will Day’s return is not a coincidence.

1 Vote – Jack Scrimshaw

Only 16 disposals but an equal game high eight intercepts, an equal team high two contested marks (out of an equal team high seven marks), and going at 100% efficiency is too good to ignore, especially when you consider his defensive work with five tackles and four one-percenters as well.

Lloyd Meek and Dylan Moore can consider themselves very unlucky.

Scrimma played such a pivotal role down back for us against the Saints, running back with the flight of the ball countless times, while defending like his life depended on it.

16 touches, eight intercepts, five tackles and ran at 100% disposal efficiency. He’s gone from dependable to super Scrimma overnight!

2 Votes – Lloyd Meek

Went up against a potential All Australian ruckman in Rowan Marshall and comfortably got the chocolates while laying a superb platform for the midfield.

12 touches, eight tackles, four marks, 14 hitouts to advantage, four score involvements and a goal himself. A mighty effort by Meeky.

1 Vote – Karl Amon

31 disposals at 93% accuracy off half back and was crucial in a potential goal of the year contender when his angled kick in to Jarman Impey led to a length of the field goal to Punky.

Reliable and polished, he had four score involvements and a goal assist in a tremendous display from Karl.
