The Hawks hosted the Giants at UTas in Launceston with an unchanged line up in front of 11,568 fans and showed what they’re made of.
After a low scoring first half to trail by 19 points, Ned Reeves didn’t return after the half time break, and Hawthorn responded with a six goal third quarter to lead by three points going into the final stanza.
The Hawks finished on top by six points after an exciting finish involving six lead changes in the fourth quarter, and deserved the victory. The belief continues to grow with this group.

At this point, give him the six votes, the Norm Smith Medal and my future first-born.
26 disposals, 12 contested possessions, 10 tackles, 27 pressure acts, six score involvements, five rebounds and five intercept possessions read his day.
Our most talented player we’ve drafted since James Sicily in 2013. Freak.
2 – Massimo D’Ambrosio
This kid’s leg is insanely good!
Had himself 23 disposals at 91% efficiency, seven score involvements, six marks and five intercepts.
Thanks Essendon, much appreciated

What didn’t the Weddler do?
✅ – Rebounded well
✅ – Streamed forward well
✅ – Played ruck
✅ – Kicked a goal
✅ – Played beyond his years
Had 17 touches at 88%, laid five tackles and had 444 metres gained.

Probably not the best player on the ground but I had to give him three votes this week for the effort he showed, specifically when Ned reeves was subbed off and he was left to do the majority of the ruck work.
Allowed us to compete at the centre bounce for the majority of the last half and was able to win five hitouts of his own against an otherwise dominant Briggs.
That alongside 17 disposals, one goal, four intercept possessions, 444 metres gained, five tackles and 31 ruck contests capped off a great day for my man!

Another solid display for will. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the difference he has made for this midfield group is enormous!
He is great himself but allows others to be good around him and he is becoming a superstar!
1 – Mabior Chol
I’ve been critical of Mabior but he proved me wrong Saturday. Once again, there’s many players who could’ve pinched votes but I wanted to give Mabior some credit!
Quieter second half but he has been solid for a lot of the year and with a mark of the round and two goals, he deserved to be in the votes today.
His stats don’t paint an accurate picture of his game!

Simply beyond sublime. Game highs for pressure acts and tackles showed that the Rolls Royces does his defensive work, but he was all class offensively as well.
26 disposals, six marks, and six score involvements from the man who only turned 23 last Wednesday and we’re starting to run out of superlatives for him

Very good down back for three quarters before playing a hybrid ruck/midfielder/forward role in the last.
17 disposals, five marks, five tackles, four intercepts, three inside 50s, a goal, and 444 metres gained from the young gun quantifies a solid game, but so much of what he did for the team cannot be quantified, and we don’t win that game without him.
1 – Conor Nash
The big Irishman had a lot of different jobs to do and did them all well.
Threw his big frame around to lay seven tackles, whilst also recording seven score involvements and three inside 50s, in addition to a team high six clearances and 20 disposals at 80% efficiency.
Very good work in less than 70% time on ground.

What more can I say about him, just taking his game to the next level and lifting everyone around him.
Score involvements, pressure acts and contested possessions galore. A lot of important spoils as well.
2. Josh Weddle
Thrown everywhere this game and adapted so easily. Even though Briggs was able to out muscle him in the ruck contests, he was able to apply elite pressure, roll forward and hit the scoreboard.
1. Connor Mcdonald
His ability to cover the ground and run all day is vital to the game style we play. Kicked two goals, one on the run in the last. Elite pressure in the contest as well. Great to see him and all our other smalls having a consistent impact on games week to week.

3 – Mabior Chol
His performance on the weekend was fantastic. Attacked the ball with vigour in both the air and on ground level.
Took three contested marks, kicked two goals and was able to bring others into the game with his deft tap ons. Great stuff Marbs!
2 – Josh Weddle
With the loss of Ned Reeves to back tightness that he had been suffering all week, Weds went into the ruck and took on big Kieran Briggs with all he had.
After half time he had eight disposals, four marks, five tackles and kicked a goal, while another shot was unfortunately touched on the line. What can’t this kid do?!
1 – Conor Nash
Was given the task of helping curb the impact of Tom Greene in the first quarter before being given the dual ruck role after half time.
Nashy ended the day 20 touches, seven tackles, seven score involvements, six clearances and most importantly the accolades of the Hawthorn faithful for his selfless role in bringing home the victory.

3. Will Day
Will was literally everywhere as his heat map confirms! Amassed a career high ten tackles, a game high 27 pressure acts, 26 disposals and six score involvements.
He made some important spoils and his impact without ball in hand is phenomenal.
2. Josh Weddle
The Weddler had a solid three quarters down back before being called upon to impact the game as a forward and a pinch hit ruckman.
Unlucky not to have two goals to his name, but the way he navigated the ruck role was impressive and he was a huge reason we won the game.
1. Connor McDonald
Work rate, work rate, work rate! I can not emphasise this enough, constantly pushing back to help in defense before streaming forward wreaking havoc.
An impressive 21 pressure acts to go along with 19 disposals, an equal game high nine score involvements, including two goals, one being a clutch goal late in the 4th quarter.

3. Will Day
Will Day inspired and led from the front as is his nature. Day continued to bring his natural instinct, with a mix of defensive smarts, attack and toughness to influence the game.
Day’s 27 pressure acts, 10 tackles and 12 contested possessions were a team high. Will brought two way play with five rebound 50s, three i50s along, five intercept possessions from his 26, with four clearances on a day where the Hawks had trouble with clearances.
2. Josh Weddle
Weds was up for anything on a day where he was asked to play many roles. Weddle took on the primary rucking duty with 31 hitout contests with little experience in the ruck where he battled hard.
With game highs of five one percenters and five spoils, Weddle also had an impact around the contest with his additional ruck duties with 18 pressure acts and five tackles.
Weds should have had two goals from his two shots on goal and finished with 1.1 after Dear touched on at the back of the goal line.
1. Mabior Chol
Chol’s day may be remembered for a mark of the year contender, before he went back and slotted a goal. While he contested in the air Chol also contested on the ground with 14 pressure acts making it hard for the Giants defenders at times.
Mabior’s finished with 2 goals 1 behind and an important 7 score involvements.
