Talking Hawks MVP Round 17

THUMP!!

That’s the sound of thousands of Hawks fans coming back to earth.

Geelong on its home deck has proven far too good  for the improving Hawks.  Geelong, which dominated all four quarters showed they were a class above in the 16.14 (110) to 9.5 (59) result.

Hawthorn’s loss was compounded by a significant collision involving Mitch Lewis, who copped an elbow to the back of the head from Jake Kolodjashnij.

3. James Worpel

The leading disposal getter on the day, stood up in what was a dirty day for the Hawks. Went hard at the contest all day, recording the highest number of contested possessions and clearances.

Slotted a really nice goal which would be one of the highlights of the day. One of the few that can hold his head up high.

2. Dylan Moore

Was really our only offensive threat, especially out of our small forwards, slotting two goals.

Tried his guts out all day, and it really stood out with a handful lowering their colours in this area. Lead the way for inside 50s and metres gained, he was one our lead play makers. Nice showing for the stand in captain.

1. Lloyd Meek

Got on top of Sam De Koning today, as expected, but unfortunately we couldn’t convert that to any midfield dominance.

47 hit outs, 12 to advantage and nine contested possessions showed how he outworked and out bodied his more inexperienced opponent.

3. James Worpel

Stood tall in a midfield that was comprehensively beaten even with Meek winning the hit outs.

A well rounded performance he had 26 disposals, seven tackles, 26 pressure acts and a fabulous goal showing a bit of candy was his highlight of the day.

2. Dylan Moore

The consistency of Dylan shines through most when his numbers are still impressive when we lose.  A solid four quarter performance saw him with 26 disposals (559m gained), six tackles, seven score involvements including 2 goals.

1. Jarman Impey

The heat was on the backline for majority of the day and Jarman Impey can hold his head high for restricting the opposition as much as he did.

He featured with 22 disposals, 20 pressure acts and five tackles in a tough day at the office.

3. Dylan Moore

Kicked two goals, had 26 touches and seven score involvements. Was a real livewire in attack on a night where we looked fairly timid inside our forward 50.

2. James Worpel

Seven clearances, four score involvements, a goal and a goal assist from his 26 touches. Made seven tackles and more than held his own in a midfield that was beaten on the night.

1. Will Day

18 touches, three clearances and seven tackles, of which two were massive! He threw his body around trying to right the course of the ship.

3. James Worpel

Worps gets the nod for his effort all day.  The dogged mid didn’t want to die wondering and topped the team with pressure acts (a crazy 26), disposals (26) with the most contested (16), clearances (seven with the next closest on four) and goal assists (one which was equal second).

Jimmy has ticker and the Hawks were so much better for it.  Worps held up very well and displayed his leadership and will to fight despite the scoreboard difference by covering a massive amount of ground to deliver four rebound 50s and four inside 50s, adding six tackles, four score involvements and a score assist in 75% of game time.

2. Dylan Moore

The acting skipper flew the flag to try and inspire the troops.  Moore had 26 disposals with his two goals, but (as usual) ran his backside off with 15 kilometers covered with 2.7 kms at high speed (both game highs).

Dylan left no stone unturned and with seven score involvements from his seven i50s, his two goals from four shots at goal (all team highs) with six tackles in what was a day where the Hawks had to work hard and chased a lot of tail.

1. Jarman Impey

For a small defender, on a day where we lacked height in the back half, Jarman stood tall.  Jars scored my final vote after competing in the air and having a huge 20 pressure acts (3rd in the team), four spoils (2nd for the team).

His four rebound 50s were equal second for the team, and he chased hard yielding four tackles on in a day where we need it, he pressured with four one percenters.
