The Meath Menace, Conor Nash, recently joined Talking Hawks for an interview to discuss his time at Hawthorn, his progression from rugby convert to mainstay of the midfield and who he thinks will shine this year on the park for Hawthorn.
Conor spoke highly of both head coach Sam Mitchell and development coach Andy Collins in his transformation into a big bodied inside midfielder, where they told him to play to his strengths and use his rugby background to assist him in the tight and congested settings of the midfield.
He spoke about the some specific changes to training so far under new High Performance Manager, Peter Burge, introducing a different workload and a greater emphasis on lateral speed and power, keys to the team playing the fast and entertaining game style that Hawthorn fans became accustomed to in 2022.
Conor has been blown away with the calibre of new recruits to Hawthorn including Karl Amon, Cooper Stephens and Lloyd Meek and the importance of what they bring, all while fitting in extremely well with the young Hawthorn squad.
With the departure of Tom Mitchell, Jaeger O’Meara and Liam Shiels from the midfield, Conor is looking forward to building his leadership more this year to assist the next crop of young stars coming through the Hawthorn midfield.
