Calsher Dear enjoying one of his goals with his teammates

The Mighty Hawks showed toughness and resilience to overcome a fast starting Bulldogs side to come away deserved victors to the tune of seven points on Sunday afternoon at Marvel Stadium in front of a crowd of just under 30,000 fans.

For those in attendance and the many more watching at home, we saw a courageous James Sicily put his body on the line and lead the young team to a memorable victory, while young Calsher Dear played a fantastic debut game, kicking two crucial goals.

Timmy’s Votes

3 Votes – Jarman Impey

Jarman Impey reminded Hawthorn fans of how important he is to our team with his defensive prowess. Had 12 marks, 27 disposals at 93% efficiency, while also having seven intercepts and five rebound 50’s.

2 Votes – Lloyd Meek

Another big challenge for Meeky, and another fantastic result. He took on Tim English and came away with the points, having 16 disposals, six tackles, a goal assist and also kicking a goal himself.

1 Vote – Conor Nash

The Meath Menace bounced back in a big way. Starting off the bench, he came on and set the tone in the midfield, with 15 of his 18 possessions contested and making nine rib tickling tackles.

3 – Jarman Impey

In an elite performance, Impey personified leadership and had an impact when he went near the ball.  Jars’ marking (12), eight contested possessions and seven intercept possessions while going at 92% disposal efficiency meant the Hawks were every bit a chance to win while Impey was involved.

2 – Dylan Moore  -AKA Mr Reliable

Moorey continued his great form up forward with a goal and four goal assists from eight i50s, to go with his 24 disposals and 450 metres gained. I’m wondering if his brown and gold jumper has a blue collar hidden underneath with Dylan’s work ethic.

1 – Lloyd Meek

To deliver 45 hitouts with 11 hitouts to advantage against one of the premier rucks in the league sees Meek lifting the bar on his own standards in 2024. Meek hit the scoreboard again with a goal.  Lloyd continued his string of games with a solid number of score involvements (7), tackles (6) and a phenomenal 18 pressure acts.

3 – James Sicily

We do not win the game if the captain gets subbed off with a shoulder injury. Simple.

Stats can tell a story but not THE story but a bung shoulder, tweaked ankle and smashed head came Sis’ way, on his way to 20 disposals, nine marks, 80% efficiency and seven score involvements.

Inspirational.

2 – Jarman Impey

If he’s played a better game at the Hawks, I’ve forgotten it.

27 touches (23 kicks) at 93% (!), 12 marks, seven intercept possessions and five rebound 50’s.

More importantly, he was balanced playing tall, small, on the ground and in the air. Impenetrable.

1 – Jack Scrimshaw

The Hawks came up against Aaron Naughton, Sam Darcy and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan with a trio of Sam Frost, James Sicily and Scrim.

The tall trio took just a dozen marks between them (for context, Freo last week conceded 16 to Darcy, Naughton and Rory Lobb) while Scrim had ten intercept possessions on his own!

His 17 disposals went at 88% efficiency and had 10 pressure acts as well but his ability to not get beaten in the air was more valuable than anything else.

3 – Jarman Impey

Phenomenal game by Jarman, constantly finding himself in the right place at the right time! He was absolutely crucial in our hard fought win.

2 – Dylan Moore

Just when you think he can’t get any better… a game high 28 pressure acts to go with 24 disposals and a goal. I love how effective he has been in centre bounce attendances.

1 – Lloyd Meek

Could easily have received the maximum votes for his performance. His heat map stretches from end to end showing how much work he’s putting in when he’s not attending 88 ruck contests!

Lauren’s Votes

3- Jarman Impey

His best game all year. He was the leading disposal getter for Hawk, finishing with 27 disposals at 93%. Was a threat offensively and defensively and stood up as leader in a close game.

2- Dylan Moore

A goal and 24 disposals is nearly becoming the new norm for Dyl. His ability to go into the midfield and offer us a different look in there has been extremely effective.

He tries his guts out all day and another who stands out as a leader when you’re watching the game live from Marvel Stadium.

1- Lloyd Meek

Held his own against one of the best ruckman in the league. Was not only able to give our midfield first option on many occasions but had an impact at stoppages as well – with a few neat little handballs out to our midfielders that allowed them to go inside 50.
